Cash Back Cards
Fidelity Rewards Visa Signature
My daily card for many years. It does require a Fidelity account for best use, but since I use Fidelity as a one-stop shop, it made sense for me to also use their credit card. Once it is setup, cashback is automatically deposited into my Fidelity account.
Pros
- Unlimited 2% cash back.
- Cashback automatically deposited into Fidelity account.
Cons
- Requires a Fidelity Cash Management or brokerage account.
- No special categories for cash back.
- The payment website has a terrible user interface.
Citi Double Cash
My secondary card for many years. Very easy to use.
Pros
- Unlimited 2% cash back.
- Cashback to any bank account.
Cons
- No special categories for cash back.
- Slow website.
Building Credit
Capital One Secured Mastercard
When I first arrived in the US, this was the first card I got to establish a credit history. Unlike some other secured cards, this card is free to apply for and has no associated fees. You can put down a deposit to increase your credit limit. Use this card for a year and then you can apply for an unsecured card.
Pros
- Easy to apply for.
- Cashback automatically deposited into Fidelity account.
Cons
- No rewards.
- Low credit limit.
- Requires refundable deposit.
